BRC Facilities

Facilities offered to both staff and visitors include imaging platforms (fluorescence, spinning disc confocal and low light detection), electrochemical and electrochemical systems (voltage, current and patch clamp), cell culture facilities and a basic suite of molecular tools. For lists and descriptions of specific technologies and equipment, visit the technology & equipment page.

Within the Lillie Building of the MBL the BRC occupies approximately 2400 square feet. Space for:

Five experimental laboratories containing 9 electrophysiological/ electrochemical and/or imaging rigs

Large preparation room

Electronics workshop

Dark room for low light and laser instrument development

General use culture room equipped to handle a range of cells including mammalian

Staff and visitor desks with internet, archival capacity and data analysis tools

MBL Facilites

Accommodations: On- campus housing for both summer and year-round visitors include dorm rooms or cottages suitable for families.

General Use Laboratory: Balances, pH meters, centrifuges, cell disruption systems, spectrophotometers, gel scanner and analysis system, pipet puller, and PCR.

Central Microscopy: 2 Zeiss 510 multi- photon confocals, 1 upright and 1 inverted; a Zeiss AxioImager Z1 with Apotome; transmission and scanning electron microscopy, including ion probes.

Library: Expansive collection, both paper and elecronic, online interlibrary loan service, digital processing center and reading rooms.

Animal Care Facility: Can hold mice, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, and other rodents. Other animals may be accommodated by special arrangement. IACUC approval is needed before animals can be housed in the facility or at the MBL.

Marine Resources Center: 32,000 square foot facility which maintains and cultures aquatic organisms for biological, biomedical and ecological research.
